February is American Heart Month! Unfortunately, Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women……pretty scary! Your ticker is such a vital part of our health and it’s extremely important to make more healthy choice than unhealthy choices! This is the perfect month to take those steps to a healthier lifestyle. Making little changes here and there can lead to a lower risk of heart disease or heart related ailments. It’s ok to have a cookie or cupcake once in awhile but it’s important to eat the right kinds of foods most of the time!
Cod is a mild fish that is packed with nutrients and is heart healthy! According to an article on the healthyeating website:
”’Cod is also a significant source of omega-3 fatty acids. Three ounces provide 136 milligrams of these healthy fats, which can help reduce the risk of heart disease, regulate heart rhythm and lower blood pressure.”

My kids aren’t big fish eaters but my oldest son loves cod! It has such a mild flavor that you can almost trick them into thinking that it’s not fish! 😉
1-2 Cod filets
juice from 1 lime
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tbsp olive oil
salt and pepper
whole wheat tacos
Preheat the oven to 350°.
Coat the filets in the olive oil. Then squeeze the lime juice on top.
Sprinkle with paprika, garlic powder and salt and pepper.
Bake fish for 20-30 minutes or until it looks opaque.
Place the fish in a taco shell and top with avocado salsa.
Avocado Salsa Ingredients:
3 ripe avocados, peeled and cut into cubes
5 roma tomatoes, diced
1/2 onion, diced
juice from 2 limes
2 tbsp cilantro, finely chopped
salt to taste
Mix together avocados, tomatoes, lime juice, cilantro, onion and salt.
Use on cod tacos or just for dipping your tortilla chips!
